Deadpool (1)

There’s less than a fortnight to go until the 2016 superhero season kicks off with the release of Deadpool, and this week has brought us the first clip from the movie as Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) pops the question to Vanessa (Morena Baccarin) [see here], along with a couple of ‘#TouchYourselfTonight’ viral promos in conjunction with the testicular cancer charity Ballboys [see here], some TV spots featuring the likes of Blind Al, Colossus, the X-Mansion and the Blackbird [see here], a clip of Deadpool, Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead battling Angel Dust [see here], a new international poster [see here], and a preview track from Junkie XL’s score [listen here]…

…In other Deadpool news, if you don’t think the R-rated cut is going to be hard enough for you, then you’ll be pleased to know that T.J. Miller has revealed a Director’s Cut is in the works which will be “even more raw” and “pretty heavy duty”, while Hugh Jackman responded to Deadpool’s recent comments calling X-Men Origins: Wolverine a career low

…On the subject of Jackman, the star has been talking about his final outing as Logan in the upcoming Wolverine 3, stating that: “We have a script. A full script. To tell you, two days ago I got that the full finished—well, it’s not finished, but we’re getting super close—as you can see by the rate of my facial hair. That might give you a good clue that perhaps…yeah, it’s sooner rather than later. I don’t have a firm date yet. My thing and I’ve told you and I’ve told everyone, it’s my last one, for me I want it to be perfect, so the moment I know it’s perfect, bang, we’ll go…”

…Moving quickly on to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and this week brought us some new promotional art from Captain America: Civil War featuring a battle between ‘Team Cap’ and ‘Team Stark’ [see here], while Mark Millar said the movie adaptation of his blockbuster comic book arc “is much the same” as the source material [read his comments here], Don Cheadle said War Machine’s role is “pivotal” [read his comments here], and Louis D’Esposito released a behind-the-scenes image of Tom Holland (Peter Parker/Spider-Man) on the film’s set in what appears to be an Avengers quinjet [see here]…

Captain America: Civil War

…Having been brought forward a couple of weeks to July 7th 2017, it has now been announced that Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man reboot will receive IMAX 3D release, with the film set to be digitally remastered into the format…

…Pre-production on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 stepped up a gear this week with James Gunn announcing on social media that the cast have taken part in a table read, as well as posting some behind-the-scenes rehearsal images featuring Michael Rooker and Sean Gunn, and revealing that the post-credits scene for the movie has already been scripted. Meanwhile, Geek.com posted a few more rumours about the film, suggesting that the Guardians will get three new additions to the team in the sequel; if you’re interested in knowing who they may be, take a look here

…The Guardians roster report wasn’t the only rumour from Geek.com this week; I’m starting to think we should be taking their reports with a healthy pinch of salt, but if you want to know how The Hulk might play into the plot of Thor: Raganrok, you can find out report on the rumours here. And while we’re on the subject of The Hulk, Mark Ruffalo has spoken about his next outing as the Jade Giant, suggesting that Ragnarok and the two-part Avengers: Infinity War will serve as a kind of “Hulk solo movie” in terms of the character’s arc: “[A solo movie is not] on the horizon. And I don’t know if it will be. But we’ve worked a really interesting arc into Thor 3, Avengers 3 and 4 for Banner that I think will – when it’s all added up – will feel like a Hulk movie, a standalone movie.” You can read the rest of Ruffalo’s comments here, where he discusses Joss Whedon’s MCU departure and working with Infinity War helmers Anthony and Joe Russo and Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi…

…Speaking of Waititi, the director has revealed that he plans to inject some of his brand of humour into the God of Thunder’s third solo outing: “I love that one moment in Avengers when Hulk grabs Loki and rag dolls him. It lends itself to great humor, do you read those comic books? They’re wacky. They’re crazy. I think that‘s exactly what they need, to keep changing it up. They’ve got their dark films, some are more serious, and I think it’s great that they’re mixing it up. I really want to inject my style of humor into this…”

…If you were worried about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Infinity War, fear not as Disney chairman Bob Iger has stated that the franchise will “go on forever”
