3 Things to Know About Before Remodeling Your Bathroom

Content originally published and Shared from http://perfectbath.com

Giving your bathroom a new look for the upcoming new year is a great way to indulge yourself after the busy schedule you’ve had during the holidays. But before you proceed on your plans, here are some pointers to consider:

Consider how long you won’t be able to use the bathroom
“How long does a bathroom renovation take?” Many people are surprised when they hear that a quality bathroom renovation takes about four weeks. Renovation shows are not reality!

Many people don’t have a spare bathroom they can use while the renovation takes place. If that’s the case for you, plan ahead. Hire a portable toilet or shower from a reputable builder, join a nearby gym (there are often free trials you can take advantage of) or consider renting elsewhere for a month while the job is done. None of these are ideal, but if you’re going to build a bathroom to last 20 to 30 years, that month of inconvenience will quickly be forgotten when you step inside Source: Houzz

Don’t forget to update the fixtures
No renovation is complete without remodeling or repairing fixtures and features, which could very well make a separate checklist themselves: shower, bathtub, toilet, bidet, sink, faucets and shower heads. You should also update or repair your mirrors and shower doors. You can also change the look of your bathroom very easily by changing out door handles, drawer pulls and the hardware for your shower doors. If you have the budget a new set of shower doors can completely change the look of your room. Source: Freshome

Order fixtures ahead of time
Regardless of whether you are buying from a high-street store or a high-end brand, factor in delivery times. Big name manufacturers might take three or four weeks to deliver, while luxury brands can take around eight weeks. Any custom products will take longer so give yourself plenty of wriggle room to avoid having contractors twiddling their thumbs on site. Source: IdealHome

Check out the latest trends in bathroom fixtures when you visit our site today!

My New Year’s Resolution

As a relative newbie to this whole “spiritual awakening” thing, I have spent much of the past several years motivated by the carrot of victory. Of course, my opponent is no longer disease, germs, and pharmaceutical non-compliance. No…it has become ignorance, misinformation, and corporate industry (to keep the list short).

I am deeply invested in being on the “right” side of the equation. Even as my own personal work has evolved, I have recognized that I continue to struggle with a feeling of otherness when I encounter those who don’t intuitively understand why we shouldn’t be feeding our children GMOs, injecting them with foreign material, and medicating our way down the path of chronic disease. I have been on a desperate hunt for my people. For a safe haven of like-minds, and in this process, even my own family and old friends have left me feeling exasperated and rageful.

Stop Fighting to Win

When I learned about Charles Eisenstein’s work, something shifted for me. I began to see that as long as I was fighting anything…. as long as I was anti anything… I was perpetuating the precise mentality, emotional terrain, and energetic foundation that leads us so far from the path of ancestral wisdom.

With this, I put down my sword. I went into deep meditation and committed to self-betterment and evolution. I took even more seriously the responsibility and honor of having your eyes on my words.

And I began to experience a flooding of joy and gratitude. My heart cracked open. I continue to encounter challenges and sources of pain, but with them I feel the promise of a gift. Every time.

My New Year’s Resolution… Are You With Me?

So, for my new year’s resolution, here’s what I am committing to in service of healing myself, you, and the planet:

I declare that I would rather heal than be right.

It’s that simple. Ask yourself… and be brutally honest: would you rather be right or would you rather heal? Because often, if not always, being right is a misleading goal that keeps us stuck in suffering and misery. Up until very recently, I still wanted, so badly, to be right. That if planetary healing were to come in a flash and the conditions of its arrival were to be that no one would ever “learn the truth” about the boys’ club of Big Ag, Pharma, Food, Business, etc. well…I wasn’t sure I would want that type of healing.

But healing is healing. Either want it – whatever it takes – or perpetuate the conditions that keep us mired in suffering and sickness.

What it often takes is a willingness to let our self, as we know it, die. A willingness to allow layers and layers of our precious identity to literally burn up in the flames of transformation. We derive a sense of safety in a seemingly dangerous world from knowing who we are – our jobs, our marital status, even our disease labels. We want to believe so badly that we will believe in non-belief. To let go of these tags feels like an existentially perilous venture.

And to love ourselves and all those who trigger us, through the process.

Piece of cake, right?

The Love Revolution: What Does That Even Mean?

Love. What does that word even mean?

You’ll note that I don’t use it often in my writing. To me, it has become an insipid placeholder for something far more meaningful. As Matt Kahn says (introduced to me by my glorious colleague and friend Christiane Northrup), “love is not a feeling.” It is a container that supports and nurtures a process.

When you choose to love yourself, you treat yourself like you would a sometimes crying, sometimes cooing baby. You’re there for all of it. You support all of it. You say yes to all of it.

Kahn says that when you feel anger, judgment, or sadness, your heart is asking for more nurturance and support in letting those paroxysmal fits of ego pass through. Your heart is asking for more… love. In choosing to exercise self-compassion, you exit the vicious cycle of judging yourself for judging.

That resonates for me and my deeply felt belief that suffering and grief are healing when we embrace them.

Try It Out… For 40 Days

I want you to imagine the liberating potential of this one simple commitment — releasing the need  to be right. Think about the last time you felt frustration, pain, or anger. What if, in that scenario, you replaced some of the core drivers of that response with words like “I don’t really know” or “I’m sure there is more to the story than I’m seeing” or even words like “Yes” or “Good.” And then simply let the feelings ride. Let them be. Let them rise and fall and perform their unique alchemy without resistance.

Some tips for Not Needing to Be Right:

1. Get Humble

Thinking we are right comes from a place of certainty around our role on this planet. It comes from the belief that there is one objective truth, or one absolutely correct narrative. We know, however, that the observed requires an observer. There are multiple potential narratives running in parallel, all of which are true to someone, as the culmination of the myriad variables that led them to that moment.

Humility brings us back to an important state of wonder and curiosity. It spares us the carnage of ego-driven action and behavior. It is a path of greater ease, and, so it happens, the very opposite of dis-ease.

2. Act Don’t React

One of my favorite kundalini meditations is called “Act Don’t React”, perhaps because I’m an Italian-Irish hothead by birth! The argument queen, I have a long history of slicing and dicing anyone, whether I even know the content of the debate or not. Never a shortage of opinions or fervor to go along with them, acting from a place of dispassionate humility has never been my thing. But it needs to be my thing. And yours. All of ours. We need to learn to sit with strong emotions and let them move through us before we turn them into the burned bridges of scorching emails, angry activist crusades, or misguided public policy. These days, when I get an activating email (my inbox can be a house of horrors some days), I commit to non-response for 24 hours or until I can sit with the possibility of not responding at all (anathema to my fiery fingers!).

3. Own It

When we move beyond righteousness, we reclaim the parts of us that we are scattering all over our lives by simply taking radical responsibility for everything that comes our way. Stop. Blaming. Anyone. Move beyond victimhood and own your journey as exactly what is needed to bring you to where you need to go, including if that is to your knees. Some stubborn layers of ego take a lot to deconstruct. Trust me! We write our story, so if you choose not to dwell in the deep reservoir of badness, injustice, and indignation that we inhabit when we are struggling, the feelings will simply be what they are instead of a new infrastructure for a story that we’ll only be challenged to break down in the future.

4. Love Now

Let’s be honest. Being right never changed anyone’s mind. Winning an argument was never the catalyst to meaningful change. The unexpected, however, can and does. When we get beneath defenses, we access each other’s humanity. Surprise yourself and someone who has rubbed you wrong by offering them an apology, words of grace, or compassion. Matt Kahn asks us to bless our perceived threats in life. So I would say, “may the CEO of Bayer be blessed.” Hurts a bit, but I can get with this, I think. Because I want to be the change, not just talk about it, and certainly not limit it because I’m too busy funding the war.

My daughter has a book called Beautiful Oops. It’s a cute flip-story with a deep message. Our greatest moments of weakness and our deeply shameful errors are rich with potential for unimaginable creations. The most sacred and beautiful aspects of life are those which defy description and even narrative. There is no good and bad, no right and wrong, no opposing sides in these spaces of grace. If being right doesn’t get us to where we want to go and if being willing to be wrong can liberate us to new potential growth, then let’s get back to the business of getting quiet every day so that we can show up to this wild ride the best way we know how.

And, if I’m wrong about all of this…so be it ; )

Here’s to a phoenix year of radical radiance and the most unimaginable quantum leaps into spaces of personal and planetary healing. Thank you for all that you are personally doing to resonate this potential!

IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS BEFORE BUYING AN INFRARED SAUNA

Content originally published and Shared from http://perfectbath.com

If you’re in the market for an infrared sauna, there are several key considerations to make to ensure you select the perfect sauna for your home

Numerous health gurus, fitness experts and medical doctors all agree – saunas, specifically infrared saunas, can deliver a whole host of important health and wellness benefits for people of all ages. From chronic illness to minimizing stress, improving the effectiveness of a workout to cleansing and purifying the skin, modern saunas combine today’s leading technological innovations with centuries-old wellness principles to deliver real, tangible health benefits for the sauna enthusiast. If you’re considering buying an infrared sauna for your home, make sure you ask the following questions:

  • What type of heating system is best?

Traditionalists will always seek a way to tout the benefits of a “hot-rock-and-steam” sauna, but the majority of new saunas produced today are outfitted with infrared heating elements – not the old-school heaters that create extraordinary amounts of steam within the sauna. Near-infrared and far-infrared only heating elements are available, but saunas that use Full Spectrum Infrared (near, mid and far infrared) are generally considered the best. This heating system promotes sweat and deep-body infrared wave penetration to eliminate toxins as efficiently as possible. One of the biggest benefits of an infrared sauna versus the traditional sauna is the lower operating temperatures afforded by the infrared heating element.

Discount Sauna benefits

  • What size sauna should I be looking for?

This obviously depends on your intended use.  If you will mostly be using the sauna by yourself, a compact sauna model might seem like the logical choice.  Many health-minded individuals use their sauna as a contained exercise room. You can add a different dimension to your yoga routine by doing it in a sauna, or add a twist to other exercises in your repertoire. Bottom line? Select a sauna that fits your home and your lifestyle, but make sure to account for future needs when narrowing down the overall dimensions.

  • What are the real-world health benefits of an IR sauna?

Your new infrared sauna will provide a host of tangible health and wellness benefits, with the eight most important sauna health benefits being:

  • Muscle pain relief
  • Immune system boost
  • Weight loss and increased metabolism
  • Detoxification
  • Joint pain and stiffness relief
  • Improved appearance of cellulite
  • Reduction in fatigue and stress
  • Improved skin tone and clarity

  • What kind of warranty does my sauna include?

Though a warranty is only one part of the equation, you’ll want to investigate the company and the warranty offered with each sauna. The warranty should cover the heater, electrical system, controls and other peripherals. Better companies will even cover accessories like audio and chromotherapy systems. Also, determine if the warranty will cover the sauna if the unit is used in a commercial location. If you’re looking for a new sauna for your office or commercial building, this is an important consideration. Most warranties are designed for home use and provide coverage in normal operating modes. Spend some time online, and research any consumer’s feedback of the company, including warranty-related issues.

When researching buying an infrared sauna for your home or office, there are various models available for your consideration that will perform admirably and last for years to come. Beauty Saunas Infrared Saunas are wildly popular today and combine several unique benefits for the discerning shopper. Beauty Saunas combine Full Spectrum Infrared heaters with kiln and air-dried wood structures for superior durability and performance. Far Infrared Saunas can also be enhanced with a number of options, such as chroma-therapy lights, custom interiors, sophisticated electronics packages, and more. And it’s all covered by the  Limited Lifetime Warranty for residential use. Even commercial-level users enjoy a lifetime warranty.

3 Ways to Keep Your Bathroom Clean Longer

Content originally published and Shared from http://perfectbath.com

The household chore that we all probably hate most is cleaning the bathroom. It’s just so difficult to scrub stains once they’ve already built up. Don’t let your hard work go to waste by making your bathroom’s cleanliness last longer. Follow these amazing tips:

Take a little time to clean up your shower every day
Nothing helps delay mildew stains like a dry shower. Hang a squeegee over the shower head and make it a rule that the last one to take a shower wipes down the walls, tub, and shower doors. A couple extra minutes of work can really minimize cleaning time in the long-run.

You can also quickly zap moisture by opening a window and turning on the exhaust fan while showering. Leaving the door open, even a crack, helps it dissipate. And don’t forget to stretch the shower curtain open when it dries, too. Source: GoodHousekeeping

Tilt your head down when brushing your teeth
Well, I’ve always done it this way, but I see a lot of people who brush their teeth facing the mirror. You know what that does, though? It sends lots of little toothpaste bubbles on the mirror and everywhere on the countertop.

I’ve noticed that if I bow my head and keep it close to the sink, most of these bubbles end up in the sink and rinsed away. Silly? Maybe. But I find it saves me a lot of mirror-cleaning.  Source: TheSpruce

Put soap in the flush tank
You can either add a piece of soap to your flush tank or drop one of the ready-made toilet cleaner bulbs into the tank. In this way, your toilet bowl is getting cleaned every time you flush. Soapy water is slippery, so it doesn’t allow the stains to stick. Source: BoldSky

Natural Healing for Children: Qigong

Our mettle is never more tested than through our children’s health.

In fact, maternal and pediatric medicine is predicated on fear. That innate and primal, mama bear, I’ll do anything for my kid, impulse has been systematically captured by a near religiously upheld practice of aggressive and proactive management of the human body. (Have you heard of families being kicked out of pediatric practices for not “complying”?)

It begins with the medicalization of pregnancy and transfers to the newborn and child, soon seen as a mini-adult rife with the same mechanical defects, germs, and disease-fostering proclivities, necessitating “unfortunate but necessary” interventions and preventions.

From antibiotic eye goop to vitamin K shots, vaccines, Tylenol, steroids, and more antibiotics, our children are messaged from the moment of their birth about their bodies. And we are the messengers.

I believe that each and every interaction with the medical system deserves a conscious assessment: what does this express about my beliefs around health and the body? What am I saying to my child? What sociocultural or familial lore am I passing on?

Because of our deepening understanding of the placebo effect, we now know that the beliefs we bring to our medical care are critical if not even primarily impactful.

Back in the day, pediatricians had a reverence for the body. My friend Dr. Larry Palevsky discusses the appreciation of milestones met after childhood experiences of illnesses labeled as Measles. You read that right – illness serves a purpose. From his perspective (and mine), it primes the immune system and stimulates its evolution and development as an adaptive stressor. Perhaps illness even plays a role in detoxification processes that become necessary at times. Here’s what’s unlikely: that pediatric illness is some kind of malfunction of a flawed machine that is to be avoided at all costs and wrestled into submission if said avoidance strategy fails.

This approach to parenting is driven by FEAR and reactivity.

And it’s only natural because of our evolutionary wiring, but we have outsourced our trust to authorities that reflect back to us a harrowing tale of our health prospects, and a new normal of chronic disease. And we have to stop to witness how this strategy is taking us down a road of nut-free lunch tables, multiple prescriptions by age 10, and neurological disability.

It’s time to reconnect to our inner compass. To come into deeper contact with what our souls know to be true: that our response to illness, from a place of deep faith in the body, is our best treatment, and that mindful living is our best prevention.

How to support your child when they are sick, injured, or struggling with their bodies

I have a Pharma-free household, and my daughters have never been to a doctor or emergency room for an illness. That said, having trained in functional medicine, I spent years trying to negotiate with them to choke back supplement tinctures of fatty acids, probiotics, minerals, and herbs. But soon, after one too many battles and a growing sense that I was overly attached to their cooperation in this arena, I realized that the more I pushed their vitamins, the more I was sending a message to them that their bodies needed these vitamins and were incomplete without them. While I have grave concerns about soil integrity and global food transport compromising the nutrient density of our foods, I also believe in quantum healing – tapping into the energy field to source an effect that is inexplicable through an A+B=C model.

And so we have settled on energy medicine. They take flower remedies and homeopathy without resistance, when needed, and they are in charge of self-administering.

I couldn’t have been more inspired to have the opportunity to ask Master Mingtong Gu, during my first Qigong training, about how and what this ancient practice can offer children.

If conventional medicine is the push-pull, Newtonian, body-as-machine model of health, then Qigong is the non-linear, Quantum, soul-as-body model of health. Through this ancient practice, visualization, sound, and slow movement allow each person to engage in radical self-healing of stuck energy and cellular memories of trauma – also known as illness! The outcomes from the Medicine-less Hospital in China are right up my alley – ocumenting an effectiveness rate in 99% of 200,000 cases.

No risk, high yield hope for healing. Sounds like something I want to transmit to my little ladies.

Here were Mingtong’s recommendations for bringing this energetic practice to your family:

  1. Model body confidence. When a child trips and falls, what’s the first thing they do? They check for your reaction. If you freak out, so do they. If you reflect confidence in their resiliency, they get up and keep running! Check your fears, always, and everywhere. Know that when you “worry” about your child and their symptoms, you are transmitting your fear…and the message that you don’t have confidence in their body to heal itself. This fear is the real contagion. So, use phrases like “Your body can handle this…it knows exactly what to do…let me help you listen to what your body is saying.”
  2. Stay with the body. Help your child embody by asking them where they feel what they feel. They can point to it, describe it, and share what it’s like. You can even ask them to imagine that they are traveling within their own body…what does it look like in there? What do they see?
  3. Bring the love where it’s needed. The inner smile practice is exactly what it sounds like – bringing the energy of a smile, to where it hurts. This is the foundational practice of moving towards, not away from the pain, struggle, and challenge. Being with it, even loving it. Imagine a warm light traveling from your smiling face, inward toward the heart and then to every organ and cell in the body, leaving each smiling. This simple practice can act as the foundation to a lifetime of embracing what is.
  4. Meditate together. Lachi is one of the foundational meditative practices of Qigong, and it is demonstrated in this video

Kids love meditating! And they love chanting. So spend a few minutes feeling the “chi ball” and chanting Hao-la which means “All is well…getting better” or Kai-Her for expansion and gathering. Invite them to bring this activated chi ball to where it hurts in their body to move that stuck energy.

If symptoms are reframed, not as a nuisance, not as a problem, but as an expression of the body, that requires attention, support, and focused intention, then self-empowerment, self-confidence, and personal trust are amplified. These are the keys to unlocking an entirely different relationship to health and healing…a more beautiful story. Conscious parents have a precious opportunity to shift the consciousness of the next generation through these simple practices.

Advent Calendar Door 19

Advent Calendar Enlightened Equipment

Dear Santa,

I had a Revelation the other day: How good must be a quilt when it has dozens of positive reviews? The Enlightened Equipment Revelation Quilt is such a quilty, and when you look at the options, specs and possibilities it is easy to understand why: It can be used as a blanket when you’re sleeping on a tropical beach, in autumn on your hikes through Vermont’s colourful forests you close the footbox and stay toasty, and when the first frost covers the ground you connect it to your sleeping pad and will have a warm & comfortable night!. Add in that you can design the quilt just like you want - from the colour of the fabrics to the down quality, length, width and temperature rating you want. It’s so versatile that it’s easy to understand why there are so many satisfied ownwers of an Enlightened Equipment Revelation Quilt around!

Advent Calendar Outdoorline Logo

Dear Santa,

sometimes it is difficult to decide what one needs for Xmas. Sure, we have thousands of wants, but what we really need is more limited. We might want a Pyramid shelter but we do need some good hiking socks. As it is difficult to decide on the true needs, it is nice to get a starting capital at Outdoorline.sk to fulfil these real needs - be they a nice cuben shelter, a warm down quilt, a new hardshell - or new hiking socks! And as Outdoorline.sk carries a lot of great ultralight brands you know it will be a good investment for something you need, want, and really will use!

HiFAdventCalendar-Helsport

Dear Santa,

Is a 3-Person tent ultralight when it weighs 2.100 g? Yes! Because that’s just 700 g per Person - even many single wall shelters are heavier if one counts in trekking poles and a Bivy! The Fjellheimen Superlight 3 Camp from Helsport is a fantastic tent for small families and a group of friends - the massive Vestibule stores all the gear while inside you can sleep in comfort: Dry, warm and away from the bugs. One of my favourite features of the Fjellheimen Superlight 3 Camp is the large Door to the front - this allows for great ventilation and views when one is lying still in the sleeping bag! Yes Santa, with a tent like this I can imagine it would be a great adventure to explore all these scenic places in Norway and pitch this tent there, waking up to those gorgeous views!

Advent Calendar Door 16

Supreabeam Logo

Dear Santa,

December is the darkest month of the year - especially if there is no snow on the ground - and when the days get shorter and shorter until the winter solstice. That’s not ideal for being outdoors here up in the north, but that’s where Suprabeam comes in: With their V4pro Rechargeable headlamp they let us bring light into the darkness of this month and one can pursue our outdoor activities in the bright light of this headlamp! The V4pro Rechargable has three settings - Low for looking on the map and at camp, High for hiking, skinning at dawn and running at night and a Boost mode for so much light it will feel like day! The rechargeable batteries can be reused hundreds of times and last for many years, so that also in winters to come I can enjoy being outside in the darkness.

HiFAdventCalendar prAna

Dear Santa,

Does it always have to be the (cold) mountains, I wonder? What’s wrong with 25°C, sandy beaches, warm water and palm trees? Nothing 🏝⛱☀️ ! Of course a hardshell and a puffy jacket would be wrong for such a place - an airy garment like the Nadia Dress from prAna would be much more fitting - and the red colour is even fitting for the holidays, don’t you think? The long-sleeved V-Neck Wrap Style Dress is made from a Space Dye Stretch Knit Jersey fabric which is excellent for strolling along the beach and getting your feet into the sea, and also for a nice dinner the dress is a great choice. The more I think about it Santa, the more I’d like to be now somewhere where it is warm!

Commission Calculator for BC Realtor Fees in Vancouver with Net Proceeds for Sellers

Vancouver Commission Calculator Real Estate

Thinking of Selling a Property in Vancouver? Get Advice for Proven Results Here!

How much are real estate fees in Vancouver, BC?

I charge a real estate commission of 7% on the 1st $100,000 and 2.5% on the balance of the sale price for properties in Vancouver.

Thinking of Selling?

Use this form to find out how to sell your home sooner and for more money.

Are you a realtor? Click here

  • Reload
  • Should be Empty:

Around half (50%) of the 7% on the 1st $100,000 and 2.5% on the balance is payable to a buyers agent who brings the seller an offer that completes at the Land Titles Office.

According to Canada’s Competition Act, there we Realtors are not supposed to say there is a standard real estate commission.

Real Estate commissions and the net proceeds (ie the amount a Seller receives from a real estate sale after costs) are often confusing for prospective property Sellers in Vancouver.

Most Sellers aren’t sure about how much commission they will have to pay (Check out my great video on what I charge for Real Estate Commissions) and how much tax (GST/HST) will be payable on the real estate commission fee once the property sells.

This calculator clears up this confusion!

Realtor Commissions with GST Calculated!

All you need to do is input the potential sale price of the property in question (Not sure how much the sale price is? Check out this great video on Comparative Market Analysis or call me at 604-763-3136!) in the form above.

Then click “Calculate” and you will get the sale proceeds from the property after all the real estate commissions and HST/GST on the commission are deducted. Basically, this commission calculator lets you know how much you will end up with in your pocket when you sell your property in Vancouver after all is said and done.

Remember Folks! There is no standard or average real estate commission fee in Vancouver and across Canada and your Realtor fees are negotiable always!

Remember! Around 50% of the Commission calculated above goes to the Buyers Agent who brings an offer that gets accepted and Completes at the Land Titles Office!

Buyers Looking to Calculate Commissions on a Purchase?

The good news is that in 99% of the time Buyers of Property in Vancouver DO NOT directly pay commission to their Buyers Agent. To learn more check out this informative video on how Buyers Agents get paid in Vancouver!
